Exhibit 1 - BitKeeper, apparently quite powerful version control tool, many nice features. How much does it cost?

BitKeeper prices depend on a variety of factors including which products you choose, whether you choose to lease or buy, and the number of licenses you need. Please note that we charge only for users who generate modifications to your source. Read only users are allowed at no charge.

The total cost of SCM includes more than just seat price. The full set of costs are discussed in our total cost of ownership section which demonstrates how BitKeeper is significantly less expensive than any other commercial offering.

And on the next page:

The total cost of ownership of any SCM product needs to be balanced against the benefits in order to make an informed purchasing decision. blah, blah, blah …
Exhibit 2: Atlassian Jira, really good issue tracking software (does a lot more actually and is very extendable). Price?

We believe the JIRA licensing scheme is simple, upfront and equitable. All licensing fees are per server, not per CPU, per project or per user. Please read the relevant End User License Agreement (EULA) for more details.

And then there is a table with available versions and prices. No bullshit talk about “contact us and we will make you a price offer based on Your needs”. Simple, honest and straightforward, it is very clear what you have to pay and what functionality you get for your money. This kind of honesty simply rules!
